policy poetry?
(a Shakespearean sonnet)

WHAT FOAM-MOUTHED FOOL WOULD TROT OUT POETRY
into a ring where prose is de rigueur?
Elizabethan sonnets? Who does he
believe would read them? No one, we demur.

Well, yes, the information age has wrought
some odd concoctions in the use of words.
A cross-world e-mail's dashed with little thought.
And young folk think newspaper is for birds.

And obscure academics (who aren't fools)
say blending writing with new oracy
iis rising among those who fill our schools
-- who thrive on Internet and MTV.

Well, maybe Shakespeare's form is worth a try.
(But all these sonnets?
		  Who the hell's this guy?)
